be prepared for poverty

from sunnipath:

‘Abdullah ibn Mughaffal said, “A man said to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, ‘Messenger of Allah, by Allah, I love you.’ He said, ‘Be careful of what you say.’ He said, ‘By Allah, I love you,’ three times. He said, ‘If you love me, then prepare yourself for poverty. Poverty comes swifter to the one who loves me than a flood to its destination.’” [at-Tirmidhi]

ya ramadan!

Ya Ramadan!, by Noor Syed

In the name of Allah, the most Merciful, the most Kind

A blessed month is casting its shadow upon us
A night of this month is better than a thousand months
Bear with patience for the sake of Ar-Rahman
It’s a continuous training to strengthen our Imaan.

Glory be to Allah who sent Ramadan as a mercy to mankind
Its a purification of our soul, our heart, and our mind
With the most sincere devotion and love we fast
To be cleansed and free from sins of the past

Glorified is He, who choseth this holy month,
To test our sabr and fill our hearts with warmth
Of his Divine Light, His blessings shall glow,
The Seer of the unseen, all He does know

Ya Allah! For thee, let my breath be more pleasant than musk
Ya Allah! For thee, let me be thankful when day turns to dusk
My thoughts and heart are purified, my eyes truly see…
This blessed month, the month of spiritual rhapsody!

Ya Allah! For thee, my life I shall live!
Ya Allah! For thee, my soul I shall give!
In the name of Allah, the most Merciful, the most Kind,
Praise be to Allah, who sent Ramadan as a gift to mankind

change the internals

the stages of the journey to Allah are not marked by road signs, but by changes in you yourself, and the tendency to externalize these, particularly with wishful thinking about yourself and your journey, can be part of the veil.

corollary:

you can’t control the course of the journey; but you can control your manners.

don’t be veiled from Allah

do not take a wrong turn by wishful thinking.

Allah knows your interests better than you do and is keener for you than you are.

longing for new and different circumstances, unless the present ones are clearly morally reprehensible, can be a veil from knowing Allah in whatever state He has placed you.

war with no treaty

junayd al-baghdadi on tasawwuf:

al-taṣawwuf `anwah lā ṣulḥ fīhā

my rough rendering:

tasawwuf is a siege with no ceasefire whatsoever.

terjemahan:

tasawwuf ialah serangan tanpa perdamaian

ref:

al-risālat al-qushayriyya

arabic note:

`anwah comes from `anā: to be humble, submissive, servile
`anwah: force, compulsion

disclaimer:

it’s about war with the nafs

spend all you’ve got

from ruwaym al-baghdadi, a companion of al-junayd:

al-shukr istifragh al-ṭāqah

my rough translation:

gratitude: exhausting the capacity

in other words:

gratitude means spending all you’ve got for Allah

terjemahan kasar:

syukur ialah membelanjakan segalanya kerana Allah.

ref:

al-risalat al-qushayriyya, bab al-shukr
